FRANCE CAMBRAI – PANORAMA DES BOULEVARDS
KINO
LICHTSPIELE
Since 1916, the Germans have regularly organized concerts on Sundays from 11:00 to 12:00 in front of the town hall, and if many soldiers arrive, the Cambrians avoid crossing the square at this time. Plays and film meetings entertain them. On June 29, 1917, at midnight, the concert hall caught fire, it was a fire caused by a movie that the Germans used this room as a cinema. The fire spread and set fire to the entire neighborhood. The patients were transferred to the Church of Saint-Gerri and the municipal school on Rue du Temple. On August 30, 1917 the Germans installed the chapel of the Great Seminary for this purpose and pierced a door in the thick wall so that there would be another exit. On 23 May 1918, the cinema was moved to the “Enfants de Martins” theater on rue Bertrand Milcent.
