ASHDOD – OLYMPIA CINEMA

The Olympia Cinema was opened in the commercial center of the 6th Quarter on Dov Gur Street in 1973 and was built by Solel Boneh. A huge cinema with 851 seats that included a lower complex and a huge gallery complex. A ceiling height of 12 meters, the first to be built with a high standard of upholstered seats and an advanced surround sound system and whatnot.

Olympia got its name inspired by the Olympia Theater in Paris. Ashdod’s Olympia was a huge building, with an external appearance like abroad and in Tel Aviv (unlike the Esther and Ashdod Cinemas, which were built inside commercial complexes and were hidden inside).

Olympia was the largest of the cinemas that were built in Ashdod and was built to the highest standard and operated for 11 years, until 1984, when it was closed.
